Desertstar Project for the Mentally Disabled,
Inc.
This is a 501(c) (3) public benefit nonprofit
corporation. Their
main goal is to purchase land and build housing units
for 140 mentally ill adults. Future plans are to build
studios and one and two bedroom units on 20 acres of land. To
provide services such as work
rehabilitation, educational classes, vocational
services, independent living skills programs, social and recreational activities. Their rent
fees are affordable for those receiving disability
benefits from the government. Free video and discussion
programs are open to the public on the second Tuesday of
each month at noon.

Disabled Medical Transportation Service provides non-emergency
medical transportation via wheelchair or stretcher
throughout the Coachella Valley to destinations inside
and outside the valley. They are available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. They have para transporters
in uniform that are highly skilled and courteous.

Foundation for Retarded of the Desert
Provides vocational training, social, and recreational
opportunities to people with developmental disabilities
and mental retardation. The resolve of the Foundation

Pegasus Riding Academy
A place where children and adults of all ages and with

riding a horse. The warm, gentle massage of the horse

Senior Power Wheelchairs
The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power
(Electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years old
& up) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the
recipient, if they qualify (Must have Medicare, part B). Must have Medicare part B. The power wheelchairs are
provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel
a manual wheelchair, and who meet the additional
guidelines of the program.
